The RIO xR3 comes equipped with two Form A (normally open) and two Form C (change-over) latching relays. Wire out the most appropriate type for your application.
Latching relays only need to be energized when switching. This dramatically lowers the amount of energy required to hold a particular state.
The RIO xR3 relays will continue to hold their state during power outages and reboot cycles.

Form C relays feature the ability to automatically toggle between two ‘operating states’.
In the example shown, Fan1 runs when the relay is in the NC position.
Fan2 will run as soon as the relay switches to the NO position.
The Form C relays support the same wiring configuration used for the Form A relays shown above, by not using the NC terminal.
2 Form C
Another application for the use of Form C relay outputs is to drive Tower Status Indicator Lights (sometimes simply referred to as Tower Lights).
In the example shown, the Green Light turns on when the relay is in the NC position.
The Orange Light will turn on as soon as the relay switches to the NO position.
